TORONTO, Ont. — The cost of ground transportation rose 2.3% in March, according to the latest Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

The base rate was up 1.9% compared to February while average fuel surcharges were also up. Fuel surcharges accounted for 22.57% of the base rate in March, the CGFI reports.

“Truckload domestically and cross-border continued the increase,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Fuel has now risen above April levels of 2013. The last time fuel was above this month’s 22.57% was October of 2008.”
