Cancom integrates vehicle condition reporting system

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (March 12, 2003) — Cancom Tracking said it has integrated a robust fleet maintenance and vehicle condition reporting system with its OmniTRACS satellite messaging and tracking service.

The maintenance program is Fleet Assistant, developed by Toronto-based Cetaris, formerly Actco Systems Inc. (ASI). The modular, Windows-based system is designed to reduce unnecessary warranty and external repair losses and increase savings through easily scheduled preventive maintenance. Its wireless repair order module uses mobile communications to transmit data about a vehicle’s condition on the fly to a technician in the shop, streamlining the repair process.

Fleet Assistant was created in partnership wiith Freightliner LLC. Cetaris acquired full ownership of Fleet Assistant from Freightliner in 2001. Cetaris markets it to medium and large fleets.

Developed by Qualcomm, the OmniTRACS mobile communications system provides two-way messaging, automatic vehicle positioning, and dispatch and back-office integration capabilities. Cancom sells, markets, and supports the system in Canada.
