Centennial College seeks sponsor

TORONTO, Ont. — Centennial College is attempting to launch a new truck/trailer technician program, all it needs is an industry sponsor to get it up and running.

The proposed 20-week curriculum would prepare students to directly enter the workforce after graduation, according to the college. The Automotive Transportation Service Superintendents’ Association’s (ATSSA) Toronto Chapter is currently considering taking on the sponsorship role.

There are already 32 students taking other industry-related training at the college. Of their 32-weeks in class, 24 are funded by the government. Manufacturing giants Mack, Freightliner and Volvo help subsidize the shortfall in an effort to help stem the shortage of mechanics and maintenance personnel in trucking.
