CN to serve intermodal terminal south of Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (May 8, 2000) — Canadian National announced plans Friday to serve a new multi-commodity transload and intermodal terminal at New Stanton, Pa., southeast of Pittsburgh, via short-line Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad Co. and Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co., a regional railroad.
CN and WLE interchange at Toledo, Ohio, and a new rail connection will link the SWP and WLE at Connellsville, Pa. The terminal, along with new rail and road connections, will be constructed with U.S. federal government funds of up to $20 million. Safe Handling Inc. will operate the new terminal in partnership with SWP.
The project is spearheaded by the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corp.
