Costa Container Line chooses Halterm

HALIFAX (June 19, 2000) — The M/V Sigga Sif, chartered by Costa Container Lines of Italy, made its first call at Halterm Ltd. last week as part of its newly established service between the Mediterranean and Canada.

The M/V Sigga Sif and The Stadt Hamburg, the second ship in the service, will be regular callers returning every two weeks to Halterm, which will provide the stevedoring services.

Costa Container Lines is part of the G.F. Group which operates a total of 14 vessels in several different trade lanes. The G.F. Group plays a leading role in Italy and throughout the Mediterranean, in the import and export of fruit.

Halterm, which handles 165,000 containers each year, recently brought two post-panamax cranes to Halifax at a cost of $23.5 million. The company expects the cranes will help it attract more new customers.
