CRASH commends Maritime truck safety

HALIFAX, (June 4, 2003) — Canadians for Responsible and Safe Highways, a railway-funded lobby group known for its harsh criticisms of the trucking industry, released a truck safety report card that recognizes Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia for best trucking safety effort.

CRASH director Bob Evans says the report shows dramatic differences between provinces in the fatality and injury rates from collisions involving big trucks over the 1997-2001 period. The association has also recognized improved performances by Ontario and
British Columbia, while Alberta and Saskatchewan have been given “Fail” grades for
poorest results.
