Cross-border technology finally has a home on the Internet

OTTAWA — The online system for the purchase, update and renewal of transponders, is now up and running after a lengthy delay.

Although, there are reports the web-based Decal and Transponder Online Procurement System (DTOPS) is experiencing a few glitches, carriers are able to access transponder information and process payment as early as today.

Carriers must have a username and password to access the site. A letter will be sent from the DTOPS office to carriers indicating username and password.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) expected the website to be operational for user fee decal and transponder transactions beginning on Sept. 24. In the past few months the Canadian Trucking Alliance has been working closely with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to resolve some of the issues around DTOPS delayed implementation.

The CTA will be discussing options for carriers that have submitted paper renewal applications and do not receive receipts by Jan. 1, 2009.
