LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Dana Corporation’s Commercial Vehicle Systems has introduced the new Dana Spicer vocational steer axle family.

Designed to meet the needs of demanding construction, waste, and municipal applications, “This new Dana Spicer steer axle family provides improved maneuverability and new front axle weight ratings, as required by many of today’s demanding vocational applications,” says Mark Davis, product manager, Commercial Vehicle Systems.

“This steer axle series demonstrates Dana’s commitment to providing customers with what they need the most – highly differentiated products that excel in performance.”

The use of patented “power rib” wide beam designs improves handling and reduces weight, while allowing for improved maneuverability. The tires are positioned at a wider track, allowing greater clearance between the tire and chassis. The axles are designed for a maximum 50-degree turn angle. Product enhancements such as the long-life large diameter kingpin joint and the long-life tie rod end with new grease purge valve have significantly improved durability and reduced maintenance.

In order to meet changing customer needs, load carrying capacities have also been optimized in this steer axle series through the addition of new models designed specifically for 16,000-lb and 22,800-lb rated applications. The Dana Spicer vocational steer axle family will begin limited production in April 2002, with full production slated to begin in July 2002.
