Date set for annual Teddy Bear Convoy

by Truck News

ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. – Trucking companies and drivers across Newfoundland and Labrador are raising money to support the Janeway Children’s hospital – the only children’s hospital in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The event dubbed the Teddy Bear Convoy will take place on June 7 and will coincide with the annual Janeway Telethon. The event will also have a ceremonial cheque presentation to the hospital, as well as a barbeque social sponsored by Marine Atlantic.

Last year, the convoy and telethon combined raised more than $35,000 and had more than 70 trucks participating.

This year, Just For Kids Transportation Group, who organizes the Teddy Bear Convoy is looking to increase both the number of trucks participating and the money raised for the hospital.

Donations can come from individuals or companies, but must be recorded on a pledge sheet Contact Jocelyn Miller at 722-1991 or e-mail her at auto@eastcantrans.com for more information.

Donations and pledge sheets for those participating in the convoy can be submitted to the Just For Kids Transportation Group at City Tire on June 7 before the convoy starts. As an incentive, Just For Kids is putting two tickets to the Journey concert at Mile One Stadium up for grabs. The person who raises the most money and hands in their pledge sheet on or before June 7, will win them.
