Dollarton Highway realignment to go ahead

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Dollarton Highway realignment project can finally go ahead as planned, now that North Vancouver and Imperial Oil have reached an agreement.

North Vancouver District has agreed to purchase a 6,600 sq. ft. parcel of land at the corner of the Old Dollarton Hwy. and Amherst Ave., which will be dedicated as highway.

In turn, Imperial Oil will be responsible for cleaning up the site of any contamination from the gas station that used to operate there. The purchase price of the land was $10, but the district will also pay all land title office registration and plan preparation fees.

An agreement on the land was expected last September, but talks between Nexen Chemicals and Imperial Oil about site contamination stalled the project.
