DOT sets March 2003 deadline for new hours of service regs

WASHINGTON (May 27, 2002) — The U.S. Dept. of Transportation has set a March 2003 deadline to issue a final rule on the number of hours a truck driver may work.

The date was part of a regulatory agenda published in the Federal Register May 13.

But officials from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which is developing driver hours-of-service rules, said the March date for final action does not represent a firm commitment to complete a rule by then.
