FedEx buys 1,900 Freightliner Sprinter vans

FedEx has announced it will buy 1,900 of Freightliner’s new Sprinter delivery vans.

The Sprinter, launched in Europe in 1995 and sold by Freightliner’s parent company DaimlerChrysler in Europe and South America, will be built and distributed under the Freightliner name in the United States and Canada beginning the second quarter of 2001.

The Sprinter is a Class 2 and 3 utility van designed for parcel and general delivery, passenger transport and shuttle. It was launched in Europe in 1995, and will be assembled at Freightliner’s Gaffney, S.C., plant.

The first Sprinter deliveries to FedEx will be made in August, according to published reports. DaimlerChrysler sold 130,000 Sprinters in Europe last year.
