Feds to help squash pine beetle epidemic

QUESNEL, B.C. — Forestry companies and truckers who make their living hauling B.C. timber received some good news recently.

Federal Finance Minister, Paul Martin, says the feds will chip in some money to help rid B.C. of the troublesome mountain pine beetle that has been eating its way through thousands of acres of B.C. forests.

There is no word yet on how much money will be allocated, or when it will be handed over.

But the mayor of Quesnel confirms a tentative agreement is in place and that Martin has acknowledged the epidemic is a national disaster that warrants federal assistance.
