Freightliner dumps Dina – Western Star deal
As expected, Freightliner LLC announced today it would terminate the Solar Series supplier agreement between Mexico-based Consorico G. Grupo Dina and Western Star Trucks Holdings.
Just one day after officially acquiring Western Star, Freightliner notified Grupo Dina it would effectively terminate the deal in 60 days. Grupo Dina had a 10-year agreement to build Western Star’s class-7 Solar Series. Approximately 600 Solar Series products have been supplied to date.
Despite Grupo Dina’s hopes that Freightliner’s acquisition of Western Star would not affect the Solar Series agreement, a marketing alliance with a third party “did not fit in well with (Freightliner’s) long-range strategic plans.” Through its Sterling subsidiary, Freightliner already has a medium-duty line in the Acterra, which was introduced last fall.
Meanwhile Freightliner has removed the Western Star Truck Holdings website. A notification asks that those who need more information visit the Freightliner site.
