TORONTO— The Discovery Channel will debut the original eight-part Canadian series, Highway Thru Hell on September 4, 2012. The show follows a heavy rescue teams as they try to do their tough job in a tough environment: B.C.’s steepest roads.

The show premiers Tuesday, September 4 at10 p.m. ETand follows the men of Jamie Davis Heavy Rescue as they work to clear any accidents and keep the highways open.

Jamie Davis’ rescue teams work in the mountains that surround Merritt,Princeton, Lytton and Hope, B.C., where the highways are steep and dangerous. Truckers hauling loads in these areas often find themselves in dangerous situations and face bad weather, lethal drop-offs and rockslides, the show says.Davis’ rescue team tries to keep openNorth America’s most inhospitable trucking routes, like Coquihalla Highway, 100 kilometers cutting through the Cascade Mountains.

In one episode, a jack-knifed rig is dangling from a 120-meter cliff andDavis’ team has to bring their Rescue 52 team, which features a fixed 30-tonne crane and two powerful winches that extend the reach of the truck for hundreds of miles. It would take the capacity of eight standard tow trucks to match the capacity of this single heavy wreck mover.
