ICBC hushes employees
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Insurance Corp. of B.C. (ICBC) management have imposed a gag order on employees, in an effort to prevent them from promoting the government-run insurance company.
ICBC president Thom Thompson issued an internal memorandum, which advises workers not to advocate any one insurance system over another.
The memo goes on to say that any ICBC promotion by unionized workers must be done on their own time. That’s causing concern among the company’s employees.
Jerri New of the Office and Professional Employees Union suggests management must have something to hide. She hints if management is trying to hide facts from the public about insurance, then a decision to privatize the corporation may be unfolding.
