International goes clutchless

WARRENVILLE, Ill. (May 6, 2004) — International Truck and Engine will begin offering the Eaton Fuller automated UltraShift transmission in 8600 and 9000i Series tractors.

Eaton’s first, fully automated, two-pedal transmission, The UltraShift offers fully automatic shifting with Eaton Fuller 10-speed transmission technology. The UltraShift transmission features an automatic start with no clutch pedal and computer-controlled shifts at ideal engine speeds for improved fuel efficiency and performance.

“The trend is toward automatic shifting, as our customers look to reduce operating costs and driver recruitment costs. Today’s more diverse and less experienced drivers are increasingly favoring automated manual transmissions,” Jordan Feiger, vice-president and general manager of International’s heavy vehicle centre, said in a released statement.
