Ledson named OTA chairman

TORONTO (Nov. 14, 2002) — The Ontario Trucking Association, meeting in Toronto for its annual convention this week, named George Ledson chairman. He will serve a two-year term.

A resident of the Caledon/Orangeville, Ont., area, Ledson started in the industry in 1957 as a credit clerk for Intercity Truck Lines. In 1978, he started his own business, Cavalier Transportation. The Bolton, Ont., company started out as a consulting company, then evolved into a load brokerage. In 1985, Ledson started Georbon Transportation Services, a licenced for-hire trucking company. In 1990, Cavalier Logistics was formed which includes a large warehouse operation.

Ledson is a longtime member of the Ontario Minister of Transportation’s advisory committee. Premier Ernie Eves is the MPP for Ledson’s riding and has met with him on a number of occasions.

During his term as chairman, Ledson says he wants to focus on two key areas. First, to build upon the Carrier-Shipper-Consignee Issues Strategy launched under his predecessor, Frank Connors of AmeriTruck Freight Services.

Second, he wants to try and re-invigorate OTA’s The Next Generation program, intended to build networks among younger trucking executives. “I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t made the contacts I have at OTA, but there is a new guard coming on stream and we want them to be able to start building their own networks now,” he said. “This will not only help them in the future, but it will also ensure that OTA has strong and active carrier leadership into the future.”
