London ring road plans anger Middlesex

LONDON, Ont. — Middlesex County is threatening to put the brakes on London, Ont.’s most expansive road plans in history.

A ring road has been planned, which would see an expressway built that overlaps the Middlesex County border.

That has angered some county officials, who say it is invasive and premature.

“If they want the ring road, put it in their own municipality, but don’t try another step of annexing a chunk of Middlesex County,” says Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor, Mel Veale.

A joint committee involving city and county officials is expected to sit down next week to try to find some middle ground.

Middlesex chief administrative officer, Bill Rayburn, says Middlesex has its own transportation issues that will only be alleviated if they work together with London

“There’s a lot of synergies we can create by working on this togetherThey’re really not along in their problems,” says Rayburn.
