Manhattan Associates completes deal to buy Logistics.com

ATLANTA (Jan. 2, 2003) — Supply-chain management software developer Manhattan Associates said it has acquired Logistics.com, a business-to-business Web site for transportation planners, from Internet Capital Group for about $20 million US.

Manhattan Associates provides logistics technologies to major shippers. Among the assets it acquires are OptiManage and Optibid, Web-based logistics planning tools for shippers, and OptiYield, a fleet optimization solution for carriers.

Launched in January 2000 with $30 million from the Internet Capital Group, Logistics.com promised “a new era of freight transportation” by helping shippers and trucking companies forecast and manage demand for transportation using a suite of online applications. But the company reportedly never was profitable. Manhattan Associates signed a letter of intent to buy Logistics.com, based in Burlington, Mass., in October 2002.
