Maxim BBQs for Cancer Charity

by Michael Brown

WINNIPEG — Thirteen doesn’t have to be an unlucky number. In the case of Maxim Truck and Trailer’s charity barbeque, it could actually be very, very lucky for you.

The company’s 13th annual BBQ is happening next Wednesday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and as Harry Dornn, vice president of marketing says, they have plenty of great prizes up for grabs.

From iPads, to kayaks, to a barbeque itself, raffle tickets to try and win these items range from $5 to $20, depending on how “big” the item is.

“Your odds of winning are better at the raffle than with Lotto 649,” says Dornn.

Of course, what would a barbeque be without good food? Dornn says that for $10 you can have all-you-can-eat hamburgers, smokies and soda. “It’s not the healthiest, but it’s definitely tasty!” he says.

The money raised from the raffle tickets and the BBQ money goes towards supporting the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Last year, Maxim raised $10,000 and next week they’re looking to exceed that number.

On top of the fundraising event, seven employees at Maxim, including company president Doug Harvey, are taking part in CancerCare’s “Challenge for Life” program this June. This year, the team has raised $35,000 for the cause.

Maxim’s barbeque happens next Wednesday, May 29, at company HQ — 1860 Brookside Blvd in Winnipeg — from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
