Meritor Automotive Honors Engineers
TROY, Mich. (Jan. 12, 2000) – Meritor Automotive has named Nigel Spurr, a product-applications engineer in the U.K., its 1999 Engineer of the Year, while Swedish-based production engineer Karl-Gustav Nyback has been designated 1999 Manufacturing Engineer of the Year.
Spurr was honored for his contributions to the visualization, design, and development of an innovative door-lock mechanism for light-duty-vehicle applications, while Nyback was recognized for contributions to development of a flexible, modular, and environmentally friendly manufacturing system for a new family of ductile iron housings.
Nyback was originally a Volvo employee, and transferred to Meritor when the latter firm bought Volvo’s heavy-truck axle manufacturing operations in Sweden last year.
