EDMONTON, Alta. — Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture, Shirley McClellan, is not willing to take any chances with one of the province’s leading industries.

She is promoting an idea to place disinfectant mats at the entrances to agriculture shows and the World Championships in Athletics, which will be held in Edmonton this year.

She claims the devices would be a wise precaution against foot-and-mouth disease, which can be carried on footwear and pant legs.

“It’s an easy precaution to take,” McClellan tells local media.
