N.W.T. facing infrastructure crisis

YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — The Northwest Territories are in an infrastructure crisis, according to Jim Antoine, Minister of Resources Wildlife and Economic Development.

Antoine recently travelled to Ottawa to let the feds know how badly money is needed in the North for highways and other infrastructure projects.

"The pressures of resource development have strained our ability to provide new and maintain existing infrastructure," says Antoine. "Our highways are running past capacity and the municipal infrastructure of our communities is becoming overloaded."

Antoine was accompanied on his crusade by NWT Premier, Stephen Kakfwi. They made an appeal for a share of the $2 billion in infrastructure funding announced by the feds in the most recent federal budget.
