OTTAWA, Ont. — While for-hire carriers saw fuel expenses jump 20 per cent over the first quarter of 2000, their operating ratios remained strong at 0.93.
This number was again repeated in the first quarter of 2001, even though there are now 3,000 for-hire trucking companies with annual revenues of $1 million. This marked a jump of more than 300 fleets in the millionaire’s club.
Their first quarter 2001 operating revenues totalled $5.10 billion, and expenses reached $4.76 billion.
Both average operating revenues and expenses fell almost three per cent — canceling each other out.
