OTA to offer scholarship fund in honor of Bud Barr

TORONTO (June 19, 2000) — The Ontario Trucking Association announced plans to establish an annual scholarship fund to aid a university or college-bound son or daughter of a truck driver having a tough time making ends meet as the result of illness, injury, or death of their over-the-road parent.

OTA will contribute $5000 per year for two scholarships: one for the child of a company driver, the other to that of an owner-operator. Recipients will be determined based on need. They must be under 25, an Ontario resident, and enrolled or registered to attend a college or university on a full-time basis. Recipients must also have a family member who has been employed, or in the case of an owner-operator, contracted to an OTA-member trucking company during the previous 12-months.

The fund will be administered by the OTA Education Foundation and will be called the Bud Barr Scholarship Fund in honor of the former trucking company executive and current head of the OTA Education Foundation Inc.

Further details will be unveiled Sept. 14-16 at Truck World 2000, a trade show being organized by the OTA. Application forms will be available at the show and through the OTA web site www.ontruck.org at the end of September.
