Ottawa, Quebec to spend $75 million on Locolle border crossing

ST-BERNARD-DE-LACOLLE, Que (July 3, 2002) — Ottawa and the Quebec government yesterday announced a cost-sharing agreement for a $75.2 million project to improve the corridor along Hwy. 15 to the Lacolle-Champlain border crossing, the busiest in Quebec and the sixth busiest in Canada.

The federal government will pay up to $29.5 million for the project, which is designed to improve highway and border infrastructure on the Canadian side of the corridor. The project calls for a new motor carrier safety inspection area at Lacolle, dedicated truck lanes leading to U.S. Customs inspection booths, electronic pre-clearance systems, and more parking for trucks.
