Peterbilt promotions designed to counter ’02 engine concerns

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 6, 2002) — To counteract concerns about the weight of diesel engines made to comply with rigid emission standards that take effect Oct. 1, Peterbilt is discounting its lightweight FLEX Air tandem air suspension on new Peterbilt trucks and tractors.

The suspension is being priced the same as Peterbilt’s Low Air Leaf suspension and applies to vehicles made after Sept. 30. The intent is to help offset any added weight the new engines may have, said Peterbilt general manager Nick Panza.

The FLEX Air suspension weighs 400 pounds less than the air leaf suspension and is rated at 38,000 pounds. “With this new FLEX Air promotion, (customers) can run their vehicles without loss of payload capacity,” Panza said.

Panza added that Peterbilt is also offering extended warranty coverage for select Cummins exhaust gas recirculation engines and Eaton transmissions, to help further allay concerns about the impact of engines made on Oct. 1 or later may have on their operations. The promotions are available for limited time, the company said.
