Private carriers expect Quebec strike to impact services

QUEBEC CITY, Que. — Quebec civil servants go on strike today, possibly impacting private carriers, according to the PMTC.

Due to the strike, administrative services will be interrupted and all SAAQ service centres will be closed for an indefinite period, Private Motor Truck Council of Canada officials say.

“We expect services such as IRP and over length, over width permit issuing to be affected, but carrier enforcement will continue uninterrupted,” the association stated in a press release today.

But offices of 108 licensing agents will continue to provide service as usual including:

* Taking of the holder’s photograph for the driver’s licence and health insurance card
* Processing of payments for renewal of driver’s licences and vehicle registration
* Vehicle storage, licensing of a stored vehicle for road use and vehicle discarding

Visit www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca for ongoing updates and details, the association advises. An English version of the site can be accessed in the upper right hand corner of the home page.
