Private sector to invest in province’s highways

VICTORIA, B.C. — The B.C. Liberals are calling on private investors to help shore up the provinces highway system.

Transportation Minister, Judith Reid, made the suggestion that the private sector be allowed to invest in roads at yesterday’s cabinet meeting in Victoria.

She says that municipal leaders across the province have called on the government to consider allowing private sector investment in roads and bridges.

According to Reid, there has been some interest shown within the private sector already, but she wouldn’t go into any details about the potential investors or the projects that they’re interested in.

Reid did, however, win cabinet’s approval to pursue this plan further and will start encouraging private investment in highway projects.
