Q1 North American deliveries fall 38% for Volvo Global Trucks

STOCKHOLM (April 20, 2001) — Volvo Global Trucks, part of the AB Volvo group, said that truck deliveries worldwide fell 11% in the first quarter to 42,139 units, from 47,189 units in the year-earlier period.

In North America, total deliveries fell 38% to 10,150 units in the period January to March, compared with 16,381 units in the same period last year.

“The North American truck market has continued to weaken, and both Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks Inc. have taken strong measures to adjust to the lower demand,” said Tryggve Sthen, president of Volvo Global Trucks.

Mack Trucks said deliveries from January through March 2001 in North America totaled 6564 vehicles, down 34% from the 9957 units delivered during the same period last year.

In response to the declining market, Mack announced last month plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 700 positions, or about 12%, by the end of July.

Volvo Global Trucks consists of Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, and Renault V.I.
