RECORD TRAFFIC AT EASTERN PORT

HALIFAX, N.S. — More than 500,000 intermodal cans moved through the Port of Halifax last year — a double-digit percentage increase over last year’s totals.

Year-end figures were recently released and the port claims it handled 548,404 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2000.

Mind you, this total was slightly lower than originally projected. However, it still was enough to break the previous record of 462,766 TEUs established in 1999.
