Rentway to offer Descartes route-optimization program
WATERLOO, Ont. (April 17, 2000) — The Descartes Systems Group Inc. announced that Rentway Ltd., Canada’s largest truck leasing and rental company, will deploy Descartes’ new network-based routing-optimization program.
Rentway, which manages a fleet of 10,000 vehicles, offers the routing service on a transaction fee-by-usage basis to its existing customer base of over 2000 clients.
“Routing optimization is a value-added service that we provide to our customers, and Descartes is helping us offer the right fleet size together with optimized routes,” said Ron Waye, president of Rentway. “Descartes’ Web-based routing solution is of significant value to the services we provide because it allows us to plan optimal routes at our convenience over the Web with minimal up-front investment and low risk to our customers.”
Descartes said the product enables companies to plan optimized routes in less time and improve customer service with more timely deliveries. It is well-suited for planning next-day routes, and is ideal for companies that do not want to incur the expense or hassle of maintaining their own routing system. It involves a one-time setup fee, low risk, pricing based on monthly use per truck per route, minimal training and no commitment. It is also convenient and requires no change to the customer’s existing software.
