Roads blocked following gas well blowout

RAINBOW LAKE, Alta. — A Husky Oil processing plant was evacuated and roads into the plant were blocked Monday following a sweet gas well blowout in this northwestern Alberta town.

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board set up an onsite emergency operations centre and was on hand to help determine how much gas leaked into the atmosphere.

Both the utilities board and Husky say that no lives were in jeopardy and the situation was expected to soon be under control.

A sweet gas well takes gas extracted from nearby oilfields and reinjects it into the ground.
