Shaw gets controlling interest in Cancom
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (July 6, 2000) — Shaw Communications Inc. has acquired controlling interest in Canadian Satellite Communications Inc., the Mississauga, Ont.-based supplier of satellite-based services known as Cancom.
Cancom provides direct-to-home (DTH) television services through its Star Choice Communications Inc. subsidiary and is the largest provider of satellite-based tracking and messaging services to Canada’s trucking industry.
Shaw’s application to buy the 21.18% voting interest in Cancom previously held by WIC Television Ltd. was approved by the Canadian Radio- television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
