CORNWALL, Ont. — The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking for anyone who witnessed a high-speed chase involving the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and an eastbound tractor-trailer.

The chase — which took place at about at about 1:30 p.m., near mile marker 765 between Upper Canada Road and Dickson Road — didn’t end well and the tractor-trailer collided with several vehicles on the highway.

The SIU is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has any information regarding this incident, to contact the unit at either 416-641-1879 or 800-787-8529.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving police and civilians resulting in serious injury, sexual assault or death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the director of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges against police officers are warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The director’s decision is then reported to the Attorney General.
