Toromont acquires Sterling Truck franchise from Tower Ford

TORONTO (April 9, 2001) — Toromont Industries has purchased the Sterling Truck assets of Tower Ford Sales Ltd. in Mississauga, Ont. for an undisclosed price. Toromont said it will operate Sterling as a stand-alone business unit called Ontario Sterling, headquartered at existing facilities at 800 Gana Court (Highway 410 & Derry Road) in Mississauga. Jordan Markoff will be general manager.

Sterling is a unit of Freightliner LLC, which is owned by DaimlerChrysler Corp. Toromont provides construction equipment, power, refrigeration, and process systems. Toromont said its existing on-highway truck service business within its Caterpillar dealership will continue to support and serve all truck dealers.

Hugo T. Sorensen, president and chief operating officer of Toromont, said the company expects to participate in the anticipated future consolidation of truck dealers within the Sterling network.
