TransLink board member prepares to take control

VANCOUVER, B.C. — It is expected Doug McCallum will get the nod as TransLink’s new chairman — at least it appears that way to him.

The Surrey mayor says he already has the support of most of the other mayors and councillors that make up the TransLink board and he expects to take over the reins in January.

Former chair, George Puil, stepped down Tuesday. He was known for his attempted implementation of a failed vehicle levy earlier this year.

McCallum vows that if elected, he will strive towards finding a balance between transit and roads. TransLink is responsible for some major roads and bridges in the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
