Translink to vote on new Fraser River bridge tolls

SURREY, B.C. (July 20, 2004) — Translink has proposed tolls for the yet-to-be-built built Fraser River Crossing (FRC) bridge, linking Maple Ridge to the north with Surrey and Langley to the south.

Translink — the B.C. agency responsible for the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s (GVRD) public transit system and major roads — will vote on the proposed toll rates tomorrow.

Passenger vehicles, vans, pick-ups, and taxis will pay $2.50 per trip with an electronic transponder, and $3.50 without. Small straight trucks and buses will pay $5 with the device and $6 without, while a transponder is mandatory for transport trucks, whose drivers will be required to fork over $7.50 a trip.

The $600 million, six-lane bridge over the Fraser River is slated to open in 2007.
