TORONTO, Ont. — Police have charged the driver of a transport truck that threw a wheel early this morning seriously injuring two bystanders.

The tire flew off the truck and smashed into a bus shelter.

The incident occurred at about 7 a.m. this morning at the corner of Finch Ave. and Sentinel Rd. It left one of the victims unconscious and both were taken to Sunnybrook Hospital.

Police are treating the incident as a hit and run because the driver of the rig failed to stop and headed westbound onto the 401.

Finch was closed between Keele Street and Tobermory Drive shortly after the incident while police investigate the incident.

No further details have been released at this time.
