DELTA, B.C. — A truck driver is being hailed as a hero for his unsuccessful attempts to save a drowning man, whose car plunged into the Fraser River yesterday.

Kevin Brown pulled his truck over on the side of the road to help the drowning motorists, diving into the frigid water and pounding on the door and windows in an attempt to free the driver.

But the car was sinking rapidly and turning in the current, making the rescue attempt almost impossible.

“It was very heartbreaking,” Brown told local media. But local police are praising Brown for his efforts.

“He did his best,” Delta police Const. Ron Gerbrandt told local media. “It was unsuccessful but he went above and beyond.”
