Trucking industry shows well at NTW Awards

TORONTO (May 29, 2003) — Several members of Ontario’s trucking industry were honoured at the Ontario National Transportation Week Committee Awards earlier this week.

NTW is a multi-modal committee with representatives from CAA, GO Transit, Ontario Motor Coach Association, Ontario School Bus Association, Ontario Trucking Association and the Toronto Transit Commission.

Winners included: John Cyopeck, Canpar Transport, for Al Palladini Transportation Person of the Year; Alan Boughton, Trailcon Leasing and Bob Gauthier, Seaway Express, were given the Award of Excellence in Entrepreneurship; the Award of Recognition was handed to George O’Kane, Advantage Personnel; and Ed Doucette, Quik X Transportation, was given the Award of Commendation.

The Colonel Robert Hardie Award of Lifetime Achievement was given to the following: Bud Barr, Ontario Trucking Association Education Foundation; Vernon Erb, The Erb Group of Companies; Floyd Gerber, The Erb Group of Companies; Edward Hobley, Canada Cartage System; and George Hume, Apache Freight Lines.

An Award of Bravery was also presented on behalf of the NTW National Committee to truck driver Martin Baumber, who was also winner of the 2002 Bridgestone/Firestone Canadian Truck Hero Award.
