U.S. flatdeck hauler Intrenet ceases operations

MILFORD, Ohio (Jan 3, 2001) — Flatdeck specialist Intrenet Inc. said yesterday that it and its subsidiary trucking companies have ceased operations and will begin liquidating assets.

The company will retain a “minimal staff” to wind down operations. Nearly 1700 employees have been laid off and contracts with 1100 owner-operators have been suspended.

All loads in transit as of January 2 will be delivered, but no further loads will be accepted.

Intrenet subsidiaries include Roadrunner Trucking, Eck Miller Transportation, Advanced Distribution System, and Roadrunner Distribution Services. The company’s INET Logistics division will continue to operate pending its sale, the company said.

Intrenet said pressures related to low operating cash, high fuel prices, driver retention, and the unwillingness of customers to accept higher rates would have made profitability unlikely in the future.
