VITRAN SEES BOOSTED REVENUES

TORONTO, Ont. — Trucking company Vitran Corp. had revenues of $125 million in the first quarter ended Mar. 31 up from $123 million a year earlier.

For the quarter, Vitran however reported a net loss of $1,291,000, or 13 cents per basic share, compared to net income of $1,595,000, or 16 cents per basic share in the year ago first quarter.

Vitran’s Canadian LTL business performed quite well considering the conditions, while the U.S. LTL operation incurred a loss during the quarter, the company says.

Vitran Logistics and Intermodal recorded a small loss on a 9.5 per cent year-over-year increase in revenue.
