Western Star offers high-HP Cat C15

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio, (Oct. 5, 2004) — Western Star Trucks announced the availability of the Caterpillar C15 engine rated at 600 and 625 horsepower in select models.

For heavy-haul and severe-duty applications, the engine can be paired with Western Star’s new 1570-square inch radiator.

The new engine ratings are available for 2005 production on the 6900 XD, 4900 EX, and 123-inch BBC 4900 FA and 4900 SA. To accommodate a higher gross combination weight rating, the 4900 SA 123-inch BBC also is available with a new 1570-square inch radiator for the most demanding jobs, such as off-road vocational applications requiring a higher cooling capacity and torque. The available 1450-square inch radiator is ideal for operating primarily on-highway applications.

“The combination of the higher horsepower Cat C15 engine with a rugged and dependable Western Star makes a very tough truck,” Jim Crowcroft, product marketing manager for Western Star Trucks, said in a press release. “The engine is built to last with series turbochargers, a higher compression ratio, and higher cylinder pressure for improved performance. The 600 and 625 engine is a good choice for owner-operators, small fleets, and heavy haulers looking for high horsepower performance in their Western Star.”

Equipped with Caterpillar’s ACERT Technology, the engine meets 2004 EPA standards.
