LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The grand prize winners of the 2015 National Fleet Safety Awards were revealed at the TCA Annual Awards Banquet in Las Vegas this week.

The awards honour trucking companies that demonstrate an unrivalled commitment to safety.

Divisional winners were selected earlier in the year and were divided into six categories based on how many miles each fleet drove. Winners were selected based on their accident frequency per million miles driven. Division winners were then invited to compete for one of two grand prizes (one for carriers with total annual mileage under 25 million miles and one for mileage more than 25 million miles).

For the sixth consecutive year, Bison Transport won the grand prize for the large carrier division.

“Our larger carrier winner is an amazing blend of safety initiatives,” said Patrick Kuehl of Great West Casualty Company who presented the award. “Much like any carrier, (Bison) strives to be profitable but also puts safety at the forefront of everything that they do…(Bison) operates under the premise that if they can’t operate safely, then that service we will not do.”

In total, Bison has won the National Fleet Safety Award nine times.

“Our mission is to make sure that every one of our drivers makes it home safely each and every time,” said Rob Penner of Bison who accepted the award.

FTC Transportation took home the grand prize in the small carrier division for the second year in a row.

“The group that I have in Oklahoma City believes in safety of course…they believe in our mission, they believe in our vision, they believe in each other, they believe in  team work, they trust each other and really I think that’s why we’re here tonight,” said Travis Arnold, president of FTC who accepted the award.

Both Bison and FTC were also the overall winners of the Best Fleets To Drive For awards that were announced at this year’s TCA convention.
