    In Ontario, a recent private member’s bill proposes that the province do away with mandatory air-brake re-testing for drivers as they renew their AZ licences every five years. That’s ridiculous.

    Truck air systems are under pressure in cold temperatures

    TORONTO, Ont. — Cold temperatures and water can lead to only one outcome, and ice has no place in a truck’s air system. Frozen moisture can disable compressors, along with any of the multitude of air valves in the system. Plunging temperatures, like we have seen across much of the Lower 48 in recent weeks will be put air systems to the test. Hopefully your systems are not found wanting.

    TORONTO, Ont. — Admit it. A truck’s air system probably isn’t your most pressing maintenance concern. The systems are pretty reliable, and beyond changing the air-dryer desiccant cartridge every couple of years, you probably don’t give the rest of the system any more attention than it absolutely needs. While its primary function is supplying air for the brake system — an important task in its own right — other components on the truck need air, too. Automated transmissions, for example, and certain emissions system components.
