Daimler’s Lane Keep Assist helps keep trucks in the lane
Lane Keep Assist, the first Level 2 automation technology from Daimler Trucks, isn't quite a self-steering technology. It's designed to help drivers battle crosswinds and uneven pavement geometry. It will keep the truck straight in a lane, but drivers still have to keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. Equipment editor Jim Park filed this report from Oregon's Interstate 5.

Kodiak Robotics pursues autonomous trucks
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Uber may have shelved plans to develop an autonomous long-haul truck, but Kodiak Robotics has emerged with $40 million in financing to pursue the dream. Founded by Otto co-founder Don Burnette and former venture capitalist Paz Eshel, it is dedicated to developing “autonomous technology for long-haul trucking”.
ZF showcases promise of autonomous vehicles
FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany -- ZF has unveiled its vision of Next Generation Mobility -- anchored in pillars that include vehicle motion control, integrated safety, automated driving and electric mobility. “We approach all areas and aspects of mobility” said Wolf-Henning Scheider, who has been recently appointed CEO of ZF Friedrichchafen AG. He also thinks commercial vehicles offer the best opportunities for the development of autonomous vehicles.
Daimler to open automated truck research center
PORTLAND, Ore. – Daimler Trucks will create an Automated Truck Research and Development Center at its North American headquarters in Portland, Ore. – focusing on automated driving technology and its effect on society and customers alike. The new center builds on the company’s established research and development presence, and will be at Swan Island, where a full-scale truck wind tunnel can already be found.
